Marketing is one of the most fundamental functions in a business – as that’s what’ll get you the leads – which in turn will help you convert to sales.
However, many entrepreneurs make these COMMON mistakes in their marketing which prevent them from growing their business to the levels they want…
Mistake #1 – Relying On Karma Marketing
Many entrepreneurs rely on what I call, “Karma Marketing” – in which they are basically hoping or praying that some day or somehow they’ll get customers knocking on their door and they’ll start generating revenue or have an increase in revenue.
They don’t have a marketing strategy in place, they don’t have a marketing system – and they’re really clueless about what they are doing.
If you’re the kind of person that’s going from one EVENT to another – in the magical hope that you’ll somehow meet someone and you’ll be able to get some business as a result…
Or you’re circulating ads hoping and praying you’ll get customers, then you’ve fallen to the curse of “Karma Marketing”.
And like the word says, your ability to get customers will be dependent on your Karma. If your time is good, you’ll have a lot of people knocking in. If your Karma is bad, you’re not going to have any business.
Mistake #2 – Trying To Attract Everyone & Too Many Marketing Strategies
Another cardinal mistake that prevents entrepreneurs from growing their business and depend heavily on Karma Marketing is that they’re trying too many strategies at the same time…
The result of it – is some of it – works, and some of it doesn’t. At one moment, they’re posting out articles on social media – at one moment, they are circulating brochures, and at one moment, they’re visiting events and working on getting some connections.
That’s a very scattered approach.
Each marketing strategy has it’s place, but it’s important to identify what is relevant to you, and put the steps in place to execute that consistently.
If you’re using Digital Marketing and you think your target audience is likely to consume digital media and will respond to your offers via the mediums you promote yourself, then good. Be consistent with it.
Or if you think that’s NOT something you want to invest money towards and would rather get referrals, then invest in a BNI chapter.
Focus on attending your BNI meetings regularly and build relationships over there.
Be laser sharp and focussed over there.
Or if flyers have worked for you in the past or newspaper ads have worked for you in the past, then continue doing that.
As an entrepreneur, you’re likely to be compelled towards TRYING EVERYTHING – fuelled by your ANXIETY and RESPONSIBILITY to pay the bills, keep the machine running and continue growing your business.
But this ANXIETY will cause you to end up chewing more than you can bite, and you’ll only choke and suffocate as a result.
Learn to TONE DOWN and laser sharpen your focus towards a specific set of marketing strategies that will work for you and stay consistent.
MISTAKE #3 – Not Being Consistent In Marketing Implementation
The key to success in marketing may be a great product and a great message.
But the MOST important aspect is CONSISTENCY.
If you want evidence, just pop open and check your TV in the morning.
Have you seen the same brands advertise for years and years together – with sometimes crappy ads – that don’t make any sense at all?
But how are they able to pump in so much month after month? It’s because the CONSISTENCY factor has created awareness in their target audience and the target audience considers them as the default choice product for that category.
In business, visibility is everything. If you’re invisible, you’ll get NO business.
So start going out there and be consistent with any marketing medium – and keep on showing up there.
It may NOT skyrocket your business in a few days or weeks, but overtime as you put in the work, you’ll see your business explode.
